DJ101 and DJ102

with Talia Jimenez (aka Tangela)

Learn the fundamentals of mixing from one of Sydney's most widely sought after DJs and Mothership resident, Tangela.

DJ 101
If you've always wanted to know how to DJ but never known where to start, this is the course for you. Learn how to find dance music that you like, how to organise and prepare a USB for a set, basic mixing techniques + an intro to vinyl mixing, all taught on Mothership's industry-standard DJ kit in 4 weekly 2 hour sessions.

DJ102
Let Tangela help you take your mixing to the next level in this intermediate course for DJs looking to improve on their foundations. Learn how to use the tools built into DJ equipment for your own creative needs and explore the theory of building cohesive, engaging sets in 4 weekly 2 hour sessions. Think creative looping,  musical phrasing, mixing between BPMs, effects, types of mixes and more, plus one session dedicated to vinyl mixing.

Note: participants for DJ102 should already have their own USB and be able to mix confidently.

About the teacher

Tangela’s meteoric rise through the underground scene finds its origins in her late night radio slot on Eora / Sydney’s iconic FBi radio 94.5FM, currently in its fourth year of broadcasting all things “squelchy, wobbly, gooey, twisty”. Her signature style has translated from the airwaves to dance floors across many of Australia’s cult clubs, DIY warehouses and bush raves, including her own as founder of both dstreet and Minutiae Festival, while her record label Oomycota pushes into the experimental realm of techno and beyond. With performances on the European circuit at Monument Festival, Ouroboros, Trésor and Garage Noord, and back on home turf at Balista Festival and Diega over the summer, Tangela is a name impossible to ignore in Australian music.
